Inshore Fishing 6/19 -6/21 Report posted by Carl Sheppard of the Star Fish on 6/22/09
Friday June 19th Beautiful day on the water. Despite the miserable weather forecast, the seas were round and the fish hungry. Schools of bunker, each about 1/8 mile in diameter covered the surface as we ran out. We checked to see if there were any striped bass under the bunker, but none bit. Off to the wrecks. We caught over 40 sea bass in a half day morning trip. There we some very large porgies mixed in the catch. Great time was had by all. Saturday June 20th. Wind NW 5. Seas 2-3. Went offshore with party of 8 fishermen. Drifted a number of wreck until we found a good spot, then concentrated on our fishing. Caught over 50 black bass, bluefish, fluke. Great day on the deeper wrecks. Started to rain about 12:00, so we headed in. By the time we got in, the sun was out and it turned into a beautiful afternoon. Our mate of 5 years, Tom Masterson, upgraded his license to 50 tons and will be running charters on Sunday afternoons. Sunday June 21st Morning. Canceled the morning trip. Too much wind and the sky was threatening. Looked like the start of a North Easter but from the NW. Sunday June 21st Afternoon. Fished in the back bay. Caught a few fish. Nothing to write home about.
